The Fairfield Mules Boys Track Team won the Class 1A Weber Track Sectional Championship Thursday. This is only the 2nd Sectional Track Championship in school history. Last time was in 2016. Fairfield had a team score of 146.5 State qualifiers include;

The IHSA Girls Track State Finals are underway in Charleston and individually for the Fairfield Lady Mules, Emily Vaughan finished 21st in the 100 meter hurdles and 25th in the 300 meter hurdles. The 4 by 100 relay team of Emily Vaughan, Emersyn Robbins, Myra Copeland, and Wren Braddock finished 25th. The 4 by 200 meter relay team of Myra Copeland, Emersyn Robbins, Ciara Turner, and Wren Braddock finished 26th. The 4 by 400 meter relay team of Emersyn Robbins, Ciara Turner, Kenzie Turner, and Ella Sager finished 33rd. The 4 by 800 meter relay team of Remi Taylor, Ellanie Vanway, Adi Hickey, and Madeline Foster finished 30th.
In the 2A Baseball Regional semifinal. Ian Puckett of the Fairfield Mules threw seven shutout innings while only giving up 1 hit, and striking out three batters enroute to a 1-0 win for the Mules over Carmi-White County. Puckett, only a Sophmore threw 72 pitches total, with 45 of them being strikes. The Mules scored the only run of the game when Jake Easton doubled in Landon Harrelson from second base, after he was hit by a pitch and advanced on a passed ball. Fairfield advances to face Mt Carmel for the Regional Championship on Saturday at 11:00am, with game to be played at Mt Carmel.

Carmi shutout Fairfield 9-0 to win the Class 2A Regional Softball Championship. Carmi was the #2 seed and will now advance to the Sectional, where they will face the Carterville vs Murphysboro winner.

The Class 1A Track Sectionals were held Wednesday at Newton. As for area teams, the Flora Wolves placed 9th; Lawrenceville 15th and Louisville (North Clay) finished 17th. In Class 2A at Mascoutah; Harrisburg finished 4th, Benton 5th, Centralia 12th and Mt. Vernon 14th.
The Greater Egyptian Conference has released their 2024 All-Conference Softball Team selections and from the area, Sydnee Sauls from NCOE High School was selected to the team.
And this has to be a first. A brother and sister from Salem High School are Sectional Champs in the same event. Caleb and Hannah Smith won the discus in the Class 2A Track and Field Sectional.
