In mid-June, a thrilling demolition derby event is set to unfold in Saline County.
Scheduled for June 14 and 15, over Father’s Day weekend, a multitude of vehicles will converge at the Saline County Fairground for the highly anticipated 3rd Annual Southern Illinois Showdown.
A total of eight classes of skilled drivers will vie for a remarkable $80,000 in prizes. Notably, the event will feature a face-off between the Saline County Law Enforcement and the Harrisburg Fire Department.
The action kicks off on June 14 at 5:30 p.m., amidst a backdrop of lively bounce houses, enticing vendors, food trucks, and more.
For drivers and vendors alike, the gates will swing open on June 13 at noon, with inspections commencing at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m., attendees can enjoy a performance by Corey Evitts, open to the public at the fairgrounds. The day’s activities will draw to a close at 11 p.m. following the completion of driver inspections.
June 14 will see the commencement of the competition at 5:50 p.m. with opening ceremonies. Subsequently, the adrenaline-fueled heats in the 3-Man Compact and Pro-Stock classes will commence at 6 p.m. An electrifying showdown between the law enforcement officers and firefighters will follow suit.
On June 15, the festivities will kick off at 4 p.m. with the opening ceremonies, leading up to the Power Wheels Competition just 15 minutes later.
At 4:30 p.m., the action continues with the 2-Man Weld teams and Pro-Stock events. A slew of thrilling competitions are slated for later in the evening, including the Youth Gut-N-Go, Almost A Stock Class, Top Notch Promotions Heat, 2-Man Street Stock Gut-N-Go, Front-Wheel Drive Mini Van/Car, Youth Full Size, Limited Weld 3-Man Team Feature, and the grand finale – the $12,000-to-win Pro-Stock Feature.
Weekend passes granting all-access for adults are priced at $50 each, while passes for children aged 6-12 are available for $40 each. Alternatively, single-day passes for Friday or Saturday can be purchased at $30 each for adults and $20 each for children.
