Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission Staff Members Attend Broadband Summit

Staff members Taegan Garner and Jeff Vaughan from the Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission recently participated in the Illinois Connected Broadband Summit. The summit featured a range of presentations on topics such as grant funding and project design, with a strong emphasis on digital equity. During the conference, the staff gained valuable insights into fiber networks and installation processes.

 

One notable session at the Broadband Summit highlighted the significance of broadband access for farm optimization and growth, particularly in terms of enhancing yields. The current Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the GWRPC region identifies the agriculture sector as one of the largest sectors in the area. The GWRPC region encompasses a total of 1,507,735 acres of farmland, with the following breakdown by county: Crawford 219,649 acres, Edwards 111,748 acres, Lawrence 224,949 acres, Richland 178,481 acres, Wabash 115,434 acres, Wayne 368,017 acres, and White 289,457 acres.
