The Village of Cisne will celebrate Independence Day tonight (Friday, July 5th) with a variety of events lined up.  Trust Bank has secured two vendors to be on site, one serving snow cones and another offering mini donuts, shakeups and other fair food.  Money for Cisne’s fireworks was raised through a sausage/pancake breakfast this spring as well as three porkburger sales.  Josh Smith, the chief organizer says the community has been very generous and donations can still be made to either Smith or Jimmy Barnfield or mailed to Josh Smith, PO Box 514 Cisne.  Cisne Firework’s  display will be launched at dusk tonight from the Cisne High School Track.  Also the 2nd Annual Mary Lou Fest is set to take place before and after the fireworks.  Several bands and musicians will perform in the yard of Mary Lou Simmons, a retired teacher at 102 Duker Drive. Parking will be available on the south side of Cisne Middle School, weather permitting which is adjacent to Mary Lou’s home.

Gilbert Simmons, Mary’s son and his band, Everett & The Boys will kick things off between 5 and 6pm.  Other acts and bands including well-known local musicians;  Jim Garrett, Mark Withrow and Randy Wilson will be performing.  Please bring a lawn chair.  Barbecue and or pulled pork sandwiches will be available for a donation and a 50/50 drawing is planned with all proceeds going to pay the performers.  Admission to this and the fireworks tonight is free.
