MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:

The Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 3-2, ten-inning pitcher’s duel from Pittsburgh. Andre Pallante dazzled through seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits in a no-decision. The game was tied at one heading into the tenth before Pedro Pages and Alec Burleson each drove in runs to give St. Louis the lead for good. John King earned his third win in relief. St. Louis remains in second place in the NL Central at 45-and-41, and the Cards have won three of their last four. Sonny Gray takes the mound for St. Louis against the Nationals tonight in Washington. First pitch is at 5:45.

The Cubs salvaged their series against the Philadelphia Phillies with a 10-2 win at Wrigley Field. Chicago erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fourth and added three more in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Ian Happ led the charge at the plate, going four-for-four with a double, two home runs, and six RBI. Jameson Taillon improved to 5-and-4 after striking out seven and holding the Phillies to just two runs on four hits in seven innings. The Northsiders snapped a three-game losing streak, but they remain in last place in the NL Central at 40-and-48. Justin Steele goes for the Cubs against the Angels this afternoon in Chicago at 1:20.

The White Sox dropped the rubber match of their three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians. Chicago fell to Cleveland 8-4 at Progressive Field yesterday. The game was tied at one before the Southsiders surrendered four runs in the bottom of the third. The Sox trailed the rest of the way. Paul DeJong and Lenyn Sosa both homered in the losing effort, and Jared Shuster was charged with his first loss after giving up two runs on four hits in two innings. Chicago has dropped three of four and sit at the bottom of the AL Central with a 25-and-64 mark. Drew Thorpe toes the rubber for the Sox against Miami tonight in Miami at 6:10.

NASCAR Cup Series Invades Chicago For Street Race:

Chicago will be filled with sound of motors running and smell of burning rubber this weekend. The NASCAR Cup Series field rolls into the city for the Chicago Street Race on Sunday. The Grant Park 165 is a two-mile course that takes drivers along Lake Shore Drive and features 12 turns. It’s just the second time NASCAR has held the event during the regular season. Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, Tyler Reddick and Martin Truex Jr. make up the Top-Five in the Cup Series standings.

John Deere Classic Round One Recap

Hayden Springer is sitting atop the leaderboard after the first round of the John Deere Classic at TSilvis, IL. Springer shot a 12 under 59 in the opening round and leads the field by two strokes. Sami Valimaki is in second place at 10 under par. Eric Cole is in third at nine under. Harry Hall, Davis Thompson, Luke Clanton and Chan Kim are in a four-way tie for fourth place at eight under par. Defending champ Sepp Straka is tied for 27th at five under.
