Decent rainfall moved through the southern Illinois region this week,and more rain chances are in the forecast starting early next week,. Despite the rain, the latest U.S. Drought Monitor Map, as of this past Thursday, still showed Wayne County in Abnormally Dry Conditions. Areas to the north and east of Wayne County are shown in a Moderate Drought, and that area has expanded.
Extended weather forecasts, running through July 19th, are showing at least normal, if not above-normal precipitation chances, along with above-normal temperatures expected during the period.
Here’s the area river stages as of this morning: the Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is near the 17-foot flood stage, at 16.3 feet. At Clay City the stage is 15.55 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet. The reading at Carmi is 4.16 feet. Flood stage is 27 feet. The Skillet Fork at Wayne City is at 8.19 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 6.29 feet. Flood stage is 19 feet. Bonpas Creek at Browns reads 6.63 feet.
