An early Friday morning wreck south of Mt. Vernon, IL injured three people, all from Mt. Vernon, IL.
According to media reports and Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard, the accident occurred just after 3:30 Friday morning on Illinois Route 148 just south of Veterans Memorial Drive on Mt. Vernon’s south side.
21 year old Lansdale Hunter told police he lost control of the vehicle he was driving after swerving to miss a deer, causing the vehicle to run off the roadway and hit a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to burst into flames. All three occupants were able to escape the vehicle before it caught fire. The passengers were identified as 25 year old Jaymela Hunter and 33 year old Nikko Branch. All three were taken to Mt. Vernon hospitals with minor injuries.
