RON FELLING HONORED WITH MURAL
Legendary Hall of Fame Basketball Coach, Ron Felling, of the Lawrenceville Indians was honored over the weekend with the official dedication of a large mural painted on the side of a building near the main business district to commemorate his outstanding coaching achievements at Lawrenceville.
The mural was the brainstorm and production of the Lawrenceville High School Hall of Fame committee, and was painted by the outstanding artist, Bob Treece. It includes a wide angle view of the old high school, and multiple faces of Coach Felling from back in his coaching prime.
Felling is among a very rare group of coaches in Illinois. He won 4 State Championships at the helm of the Indians. His teams brought home State Titles in 1972, 1974, 1982, and 1983, while also capturing a Third Place finish in 1976.
His two State Championship teams in 1982-1983 were both undefeated at 34-0, for an amazing 68-0 stretch.
During sixteen basketball seasons at Lawrenceville, Coach Felling compiled a record of 388-77. His squads won 12 North Egypt Conference titles, 18 Thanksgiving and Christmas Tournaments, 12 Regional Titles, 7 Sectional Championships, 5 Super-Sectional plaques, and 5 State Tournament Trophies, with four of them being Championship hardware.
