Following a tip from the public, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department began conducting an investigation into a stolen vehicle Saturday afternoon just before 5:30 as deputies began patrolling an area Southeast of Fairfield for the stolen vehicle. A short time later, deputies located the suspect driving the stolen vehicle when a pursuit was initiated and the suspect lost control of the vehicle and drove into a corn field eventually striking a ditch. When deputies got to the vehicle, they observed the suspect had fled on foot. Sheriff Chris Otey, deputies and the Fairfield Police Department set up a perimeter and conducted an extensive manhunt. The suspect was eventually taken into custody.
The suspect was found to be in possession of methamphetamine during the time of his arrest. It is also believed that the suspect stole at least one other vehicle on Friday. The suspect, who is a juvenile has been incarcerated in a juvenile detention facility pending a court appearance. The investigation is ongoing.
