After 37 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Grayville, City Clerk JoEllen Seil is set to retire. City leaders accepted Seil’s decision to retire, with her retirement becoming effective on October 1st. Having started her journey with the city in August 1987, Seil has left a lasting impact and will be greatly missed by council members and the community at large.
The city reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Grayville Days by allocating an additional $25,000 towards the festival this year.
Librarian Kathleen Rister presented the annual fiscal year overview of the Groff Memorial Library to the board. The library saw 5,359 physical visits throughout the year and currently boasts 308 registered patrons, including 31 non-residents. Additionally, the library hosted a total of 63 programs, with 50 of them tailored towards youth, drawing in 848 young attendees. Commissioner Don Baldwin proposed the implementation of automated lift station alarms within the city. To kickstart this initiative, a site survey will be conducted at a cost of $8,600. Following this assessment, Baldwin aims to include funding in the budget to equip the city’s lift stations with alarms, with an estimated cost of $10,000 per station.
The city is actively working towards establishing a Business District alongside its two existing TIF Districts. Mayor Travis Thompson believes that this strategic move will not only benefit existing businesses but also drive new business growth in the area for years to come. The city is set to enter into an agreement with Moran Economic Development for an initial cost of $27,500, with projections indicating potential revenue generation of $150,000 in the first year. The current TIF Districts are scheduled to expire in 2030 and 2031.
The council approved an application through MG Engineers to explore the construction of a sidewalk connecting the I-64 Plaza to downtown Grayville, enhancing accessibility and connectivity for residents and visitors alike.
