With elections coming up, Thursday has been designated as National Poll Worker Recruitment Day. Becoming an election judge is a great way to participate in the democratic process and ensure safe, secure elections. Election judges also get compensated for their time and pay varies by jurisdiction. To become an election judge, you must be a US citizen, not a candidate for any office in the election and not an elected committeeperson and reside in and be entitled to vote in the precinct where selected to serve as judge. At the end of the day, election judges are responsible for counting the ballots and confirming the number of votes match. Edwards County Clerk & Recorder, Mary Beth Smith says Edwards County especially needs democratic judges. If you live in Edwards County and are interested in becoming an election judge, call her office in Albion at 618-445-2115.
