MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:
The St. Louis Cardinals gave up three runs in the top of the seventh during a 6-3 loss to the Texas Rangers at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals trailed by a run entering the inning before Texas put the game away. Matt Carpenter hit his third home run in the losing effort, while Andre Pallante was charged with his fifth loss after allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings. St. Louis is in third place in the NL Central at 54-and-52. Lance Lynn starts for St. Louis against Texas tonight at 6:45.
The St. Louis Cardinals are making a massive move before tomorrow’s trade deadline. The Cardinals completed a three-team trade with the Dodgers and White Sox yesterday. St. Louis is receiving starting pitcher Erick Fedde [[ FEH-dee ]] and outfielder Tommy Pham from the Chicago White Sox. The Cards sent infielder Tommy Edman and minor league pitcher Oliver Gonzalez to Los Angeles to complete their end of the deal. Fedde is 7-and-4 with a 3.11 ERA this season, while Pham is hitting .266 with five home runs and 19 RBI.
The Chicago Cubs had just three hits during a 7-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. The Reds scored the first seven runs of the game before Michael Busch hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth. Jameson Taillon was charged with his sixth loss after giving up six runs on six hits in four-and-a-third innings. The Cubs are in last place in the NL Central at 51-and-57. Justin Steele starts for the Northsiders against Cincinnati tonight at 6:10.
The Chicago White Sox are on a 15-game losing streak following an 8-5 loss to the Kansas City Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Southsiders are at the bottom of the AL Central at 27-and-82. Jonathan Cannon starts for Chicago against Kansas City tonight at 7:10.

U.S. Women’s Basketball Crushes Japan:
The U.S. women’s basketball team is off to a hot start at the Paris Olympics. The ladies blew out Japan 102-76 to open group play on Monday. A’ja Wilson tied for a game-high 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds four a double-double. Breanna Stewart sunk 22 and grabbed eight rebounds as Team USA scored 64 points in the paint. The women are now 56-and-0 in Olympic play and will forge ahead in their quest for an eighth straight gold medal when Group C continues against Belgium on Thursday. U.S.
Women’s Volleyball Loses Opener To China:
The U.S. women’s volleyball team dropped its Olympic opener after falling to China in five sets. The Americans battled back after losing the first two sets, only to fall 15-13 in the final set. Team USA will look to bounce back when they take on Serbia Wednesday morning. The U.S. men’s volleyball team is back on the court Tuesday facing Germany in their second match. The Americans look to remain perfect after beating Argentina in straight sets to begin their Paris run. Elsewhere, the U.S. men’s beach volleyball team beat France in straight sets. The duo of Miles Evans and Chase Budinger will take on the Netherlands Tuesday afternoon.
U.S. Men’s Gymnastics Wins Bronze Medal:
The U.S. men’s gymnastics team is bringing home an Olympic medal for the first time since 2008. The team led by veteran Brody Malone came away with the bronze in the team competition at the Paris Olympics on Monday. It was the first time in 16 years that Team USA earned a top-three finish in the event. The women’s gymnastics team final takes place on Tuesday. Simone Biles will be leading Team USA as she aims for her fifth Olympic gold medal and eighth medal overall. The U.S. looks to return to the top spot after settling for the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
U.S. Results In Olympic Swimming:
American swimmers won four medals at the Olympics Monday night, but none of them gold. Katie Grimes and Emma Weyant went silver and bronze against Canadian phenom Summer McIntosh in the 400-meter individual medley. Ryan Murphy took a bronze in the 100-meter backstroke, his seventh medal over three Olympics. Luke Hobson earned a bronze of his own in the 200 freestyle.
Team USA Continues To Lead Medal Count:
Team USA added eight more medals on Monday and continues to lead the overall standings at the Paris Olympics. Americans have now won 20 total medals, including three gold, eight silver and nine bronze. That includes the U.S. men’s gymnastics team earning bronze for their first team medal since 2008. France is second in the standings with 16 overall medals, followed by Japan and China with 12 apiece. Medal events on tap for Tuesday include the women’s gymnastics team final with Simone Biles going for her first gold of these games. Several more medal events are also on tap in both swimming and surfing.
