MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:
The St. Louis Cardinals scored five runs in the fifth inning of a 10-1 win over the Texas Rangers at Busch Stadium. St. Louis never trailed in the victory. Brendan Donovan had a pair of hits and three RBI, while Alec Burleson and Tommy Pham each drove in two runs. Michael McGreevy earned the win in his MLB debut, striking out three and holding the reigning champs to one run on five hits in seven innings. The Cards have won three of four and are in second place in the NL Central at 56-and-52. Sonny Gray starts for St. Louis against the Cubs tonight in Chicago at 7:05.
The St. Louis Cardinals will be without one of their top starting pitchers for at least two weeks. Right-hander Lance Lynn was placed on the 15-day injured list yesterday. Lynn is dealing with inflammation in his right knee. The 37-year-old is 6-and-4 with a 4.06 ERA in 21 starts for St. Louis this season. The team brought up yesterday’s winning pitcher, Michael McGreevy, in a corresponding move.
The Chicago Cubs avoided a sweep by routing the Cincinnati Reds 13-4 at Great American Ball Park. Chicago rattled off 17 hits during the victory. Seiya Suzuki had two hits and drove in three, while Ian Happ added a two-run home run. Kyle Hendricks picked up his third win after allowing three runs on four hits in five innings. The Northsiders have won three of five, but they remain at the bottom of the NL Central at 52-and-58. Shota Imanaga starts for the Cubs against St. Louis tonight.
The Chicago White Sox are on a 17-game losing streak following a 10-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field.. The Southsiders are in last place in the AL Central at 27-and-84. Chicago visits Minnesota tomorrow night at 7:10.

OLYMPIC NEWS:
The U.S. earned a pair of medals in women’s swimming finals at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday. Katie Ledecky lapped the competition in the pool once again with a gold medal finish in the 1500-meter freestyle. She set a new Olympic record with a 15:30 time. It was Ledecky’s eighth gold medal of her career. Meanwhile, Torri Huske carried momentum into the 100-meter freestyle and earned silver. It’s her third medal so far at the Paris Games. Five more medal events are on the swimming schedule for today.

The United States came up short in its effort to add a medal in the men’s gymnastics all-around final at the Paris Olympics. Paul Juda and Frederick Richard finished outside of the top 10 in the competition.
Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng improved to 2-and-0 during the preliminary phase of the women’s beach volleyball tournament. The Americans took down France in straight sets in Paris.Team USA is now second in Pool A with three points and will face off against France Sunday morning.
Team USA is still undefeated after the men’s basketball team rolled past South Sudan 103-86 in the second game of the group phase. The U.S. is now leading Group C with four points and will wrap up the group phase of the Summer Games against Puerto Rico on Saturday.
Team USA women’s basketball is back on the court Thursday at the Paris Olympics. The U.S. will be looking to improve to 2-and-0 in the group phase after beating Japan 102-76 in its opening game on Monday. The Americans lead Germany, Belgium and Japan in the Group C standings.
