Cisne Middle School Baseball practice for today has been cancelled due to wet conditions.
The next baseball practice will be Monday, August 5 from 10-12.
Cisne/Geff softball practice begins Monday, August 5, from 8:30-10:30.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:
The St. Louis Cardinals surrendered three runs in the bottom of the ninth during a 5-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The Cards led by two entering the inning before Ryan Helsley fell apart to get charged with his fourth loss out of the pen. Paul Goldschmidt and Masyn Winn both homered in the losing effort. St. Louis is still in second place in the NL Central at 56-and-53. Erick Fedde starts for the Cards against Chicago this afternoon. The Cubs have won four of six, but they remain in last place in the NL Central at 53-and-58. Javier Assad starts for the Northsiders against St. Louis this afternoon at 1:20.

The Chicago White Sox aim to avoid an 18th loss in a row when they visit the Minnesota Twins at Target Field tonight. First pitch is at 7:10PM

NFL:
The Bears defeated the Texans in a storm-shortened Hall of Fame game in Canton. Chicago downed Houston 21-17 in a game that was stopped with 3:31 remaining in the third quarter and was called off following a 36-minute delay. The Bears begin their preseason at 1-and-0. In other team news, former Bears stars Devin Hester, Julius Peppers, and Steve McMichael get inducted into the Hall of Fame this weekend.

OLYMPIC NEWS:

The U.S. women once again lapped the competition in the Paris Olympics pool on Thursday. Kate Douglass took home her first-career individual Olympic gold medal after finishing atop the podium in the 200-meter breaststroke. Meanwhile, Katie Ledecky became the most decorated female swimmer in Olympic history after capturing her 13th medal in the four-by-200-meter freestyle relay. The United States secured silver in the event. Elsewhere, Regan Smith also swiped silver in the 200-meter butterfly.

For the sixth-straight Olympics, an American has won the gold medal in the women’s gymnastics individual all-around competition. Simone Biles’ floor routine helped her win her second gold medal in the event, while American teammate Suni Lee won the bronze.

The U.S. women’s basketball is now two-and-oh at the Paris Olympics. They defeated Belgium 87-74 to extend their Olympic winning streak to 57 games. Breanna Stewart led the way with 26 points while A’ja Wilson added 23 of her own. With the win, Team USA punched their ticket to the quarterfinals. Team USA will wrap up group play against Germany on Sunday.

The United States men’s basketball team is wrapping up Group Phase play this weekend. Team USA will play Puerto Rico on Saturday in the team’s third and final game of the group stage.

The United States added another medal after shocking the world in rowing. The men’s four team of Nick Mead, Justin Best, Michael Grady and Liam Corrigan earned the first gold medal in men’s four rowing since 1960

Team USA extended its lead with seven more medals on Thursday at the Paris Olympics.
The U.S. now has 37 total medals, including nine gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze. France remains second in the standings with 27 overall medals. China sits third with 24 medals including a games-best 11 gold.
