On Sunday, the Carrier Mills Police Department issued a report stating that a suspected sinkhole, possibly resulting from mine subsidence, emerged on Russell Street near Mill Street.
Chief Scott Isaacs of the police department mentioned that an apartment building suffered significant damage, and the city street has shown signs of buckling. As a safety precaution, the affected area has been cordoned off with barricades, and measures have been taken to secure the structure due to the present danger it poses.
Authorities have restricted access to the area, with police patrols ensuring that it remains off-limits to the public.
In response to the incident, relevant state agencies have been promptly informed and are expected to be actively involved in addressing the situation and providing necessary support.
