Linda Lou Smothers, 80, of Burnt Prairie

80 year old Burnt Prairie resident, Linda Lou Smothers passed away at Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Linda was born on January 20, 1944 to Ivan Taylor and Lucy (Files) Taylor at the family home near Mill Shoals. Linda graduated from Mills Prairie Community High School in 1962. She graduated from Frontier College in 1994. She married Roche Smothers on May 11, 1963 and they recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Linda retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2007. She served as the Burnt Prairie Township Clerk and the Burnt Prairie Village Clerk. She was a member of the Prairie Chicks Red Hatters, NAOUS, the Ashland Christian Church and attended services at the Burnt Prairie CP Church for many years.

Linda is survived by her husband; Roche, 3 sons; Scott (Carol) Smothers of Fairfield, David (Jill Edwards) Smothers of Fairfield and Brian Smothers of Burnt Prairie. 3 grandchildren; Bethany (Josh) Beadles, Erin (Ryan) Lepski and Caleb (Savannah) Smothers. 2 great grandchildren; Addison Taylor Beadles and William David Beadles. 3 step grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren. 3 siblings; Jean Malone, Cheryl (Ed) Johnson and Jimmy (Elisa) Taylor. Brother in law; Charles Rankin, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step mother; Lois Taylor, 2 grandsons,; Logan and Isaiah Smothers, 1 great grand daughter; Sage Taylor Lepski and 3 sisters; Dorothy Preston, Jo Rankin and Marikay Wilkerson.

Funeral services for Linda Lou Smothers will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in the Burnt Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m. to service time.

Memorials may be made to Dr. Scranton Cancer Fund, Shriners Hospital for Children or St. Judes.
