On Friday, Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) announced $15 million in funding for 33 organizations across Illinois through the Job Training and Economic Development Programs. This includes $547,853 allocated for the Illinois Eastern Community Colleges District.
The Job Training and Economic Development Programs aim to provide workforce training and comprehensive services to support equitable workforce recovery for Illinois residents facing challenges in securing meaningful employment. These grants, as part of Illinois’ workforce recovery initiatives, are designed to enhance employment opportunities for workers and industries most impacted by the effects of COVID-19.
Director Kristin Richards of DCEO emphasized the significance of deliberate investments in Illinois’ exceptional workforce, highlighting the ongoing success of the Job Training and Economic Development program. The allocated funding will enable the provision of services to underemployed, unemployed, and underrepresented communities, facilitating access to well-paying job opportunities for individuals in need.
