Rivers and WX Info

Area rivers aren’t doing much with the recent run of dry weather.  Here’s the latest stages as of this morning:  Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 5.11feet.  Flood stage east of Fairfield is 17 feet.  At Clay City the stage is 4.61feet.  Flood stage is 18 feet.  At Carmi the reading is 3.79 feet.  Flood stage is 27 feet.  The Skillet Fork at Wayne City stands at 5.1feet.  Flood stage is15 feet.  The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 3.13 feet, below the 19-foot flood stage.  Bonpas Creek at Browns is at 1.26 feet.

Despite the area being on the dry side for the past several days, there are no Abnormally Dry or Drought  conditions in our region, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor map.  The current weather forecast indicates mainly dry conditions for next week, with pleasant temperatures for mid-August.  The extended forecasts indicate below normal precipitation for the next two weeks, running through August 30th, with below normal temperatures expected in the six-to-ten day outlook, and above normal temperatures in the 8 to 14 day outlook.  The latest 30 day outlook for the month of September was released on Friday.  It is favoring above normal temperatures for the month in our area, with equal chances of precipitation being above or below normal.
