Michael “Mike” William Shelton, 66, of Keenes

Michael “Mike” William Shelton, 66, of Keenes, IL passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO.  He was born November 28, 1957 to the late William Shelton and Sylvia (Bean) Shelton of Bonnie, IL.  Michael married Sandra “Sandy” (Jackson) Shelton on March 26, 1991.  They enjoyed 33 years of happy marriage.

Mike worked at Continental Tire North America in Mt. Vernon, IL for 30 years.  He was very proud of having retired at age 49, becoming the youngest worker to ever retire from the plant.  He loved raising cattle, horses and other livestock with his wife.  He was extremely proud of his pure-bred Limousin cattle herd. He baled hay for the farm and many others in the community mainly on his beloved yellow Minneapolis-Moline G955 tractor. He loved to hunt deer and turkey on his property.  He was a guitarist who played in local bands back in the 1970’s & 1980’s, and ran a DJ Service (Big Dawg Sound and Light) for many years.

One of Michael’s best attributes was his sense of humor, always having a smile and a joke for

anyone he met.  His grandchildren were immeasurable joys in his life. He will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to his beloved wife Sandy, Michael is survived by his sons: Nathaniel M. Shelton of Evansville, IN and Jacob W. (Dana) Shelton of Henderson, KY; beloved grandchildren: Syliva Ruth Shelton and RJ Shelton of Henderson, KY; siblings: Steven Shelton of Mt. Zion, IL and Kristina Shelton of Bonnie, IL; aunt Karen (George) Bean of Waltonville, IL; nephews: Blake (Samantha) Shelton of Elkhart, IL; Kyle Shelton of Windsor, IL and DJ (Jessyka) Nelson of Ft. Johnson/Polk, LA; niece Haley Carstensen of Bonnie, IL; and lastly, he is survived by his beloved dog Hoss who was always by his side.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his son Joshua A. Shelton; father-in-law & mother-in-law Wayne & Sally Jackson; grandparents Adam & Mary (Osborn) Bean, and Gale & Mary Shelton; aunts: Betty (Louis) Knox and Rosemary (James) Faulkner; uncles: George (Karen) Bean, David (Nelles) Shelton, and Francis (Betty) Murray.

Funeral services for Michael William Shelton will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Randy Hayes and Minister Zach Cash officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon on Friday at the funeral home.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Rightnowar Cemetery in Waltonville, IL (southwest of Mt. Vernon, IL).
