Lowell Kerans, 91, of Wayne City, Illinois, passed away Tuesday morning, August 20, 2024, at his home.
Lowell was born December 20, 1932, in Ashmore Township, Illinois, to Forrest and Agnes (Waters) Kerans. On November 13, 1958, he married Carolyn Carrico, who preceded him in death.
Lowell was an avid horseman, actively involved in the Wayne City Saddle Club for many years. He and his late wife Carolyn shared a love for dancing to country music; a hobby that he kept
even after her passing. Lowell took pride in his community by serving on the Wayne City Board and participated in many Bean Day parades.
He owned his own business for many years, Kerans Meter Testing, contracting with REAs in Southern Illinois. He was also a proud Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from November 1952 until October 1956.
Lowell is survived by 3 children, Pamela (Larry) Braddock of Wayne City; Michael (Jennifer) Kerans of McLeansboro; Bradley (Michele) Kerans of St. Peters, Missouri. He is also survived by seven granddaughters and five great grandchildren. Jessica (Kyle) Struckhoff and children, Mason & Henley of Webb City, Missouri; Sara (Steven) Fey and children, Hayden & Tucker of New London, Iowa; Presley (Caleb) Price of Shiloh, Illinois; Paxton (Kyle) Kunath and son, Rory of Golconda, Illinois; Samantha Kerans of St. Peters, Missouri; Amanda (Ben) Varghese of St. Peters, Missouri; Savannah Kerans of St. Peters, Missouri; a sister, Karen Kerans of Muskegon, Wisconsin; brother and sister-in-law, George & Shirley Wellbaum of Greenup, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Kerans of Arcola, Illinois, and special friend, Deborah Murphy of Keenes, Illinois.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn; a brother, Jerry Kerans; a sister, Glenda Grant; and parents, Forrest & Agnes Kerans.
Services for Lowell will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Steve Griswold officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow the funeral service at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City. Graveside military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #141 of Mt. Vernon, IL.
