Paula Jean Dickinson, 82, of Flora, Illinois, was welcomed home into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Monday morning, August 19, 2024, surrounded by the love of her gathered family.
She was born September 16, 1941, in Decatur, the daughter of Harold Edward and Geraldine Louise (Graham) Parker. She was united in marriage to George Edward Dickinson on May 28, 1960, in Decatur, and together they shared 64 wedding anniversaries.
Paula had worked at Spiegel, Inc., Sears, J.C. Penney’s, Montgomery Ward, and had her own flower shop called “Paula’s Plant Corner.” She enjoyed reading, camping, and working in her flower garden. Her family was the greatest joy in her life, and she loved spending time playing with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Paula and George were members of Bethlehem Christian Church, and in the past she was active in the “Be About Circle” at First Christian Church in Flora. She had been a Brownie, Girl Scout, and Cub Scout leader.
She is survived by her husband: George Dickinson of Flora; 3 children: Christine (Phillip) Wolfe of Flora, Julie (Mike) Nichols of Flora, and Timothy (Susan) Dickinson of Geff; 6 grandchildren: Mallory Wolfe, Andrea (Kyle) Michael, Abigail (Dakota) Orel, Blake (Amanda) Owen, Ashley (Jacob) Shreve, and Avy (Matthew) Suntrup; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister:
Suzanne (Dan) Thomas of Blairsville, Georgia; and a sister-in-law: Sandy (Dale) Goodbrake of Cotter, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister: Patricia Parker, a niece: Lynette Thomas; her parents-in-law: Willard & Ruby Dickinson; and a brother-in-law: Willard Dickinson.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with Mark Luzadder officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Hospice, and they will be accepted through the funeral home.
