MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:
The St. Louis Cardinals fell further behind in the NL Central race following a 3-2 lead to first-place Milwaukee at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals trailed 3-0 before Matt Carpenter hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth, but they weren’t able to finish off the comeback. Erick Fedde was charged with his seventh loss after giving up two runs on six hits in five-and-two-thirds innings. St. Louis is in third place in the NL Central at 61-and-64. The Cardinals send Kyle Gibson to the mound against the Brewers tonight.
Cody Bellinger hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the fifth inning as the Cubs went on to beat the Tigers 3-1 at Wrigley Field. Dansby Swanson added a solo homer in the sixth for insurance for the Cubs, who have won three of four. Javier Assad pitched one-run ball into the sixth inning for the win. He improved to 6-and-3. Porter Hodge posted his second save. The Northsiders are in second place in the NL Central at 62-and-64. Jameson Taillon starts for the Cubs against Detroit tonight.
The Chicago White Sox had just three hits during a 4-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. Lenyn Sosa drove in Chicago’s only run during the losing effort. Davis Martin was charged with his second loss after surrendering two earned runs and one unearned run on four hits in four-and-a-third innings. The Southsiders remain in last place in the AL Central at 30-and-97. Garrett Crochet starts for the Sox against San Francisco this afternoon.

Blues Officially Sign Broberg, Holloway:
Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway are officially members of the St. Louis Blues. The Edmonton Oilers declined to match the offer sheets of both of their restricted free agents yesterday. The Blues signed the pair to the sheets last week, triggering a seven-day deadline for Edmonton to match St. Louis’ financial offer. Broberg is a defenseman who had two assists in 12 games last season. Holloway had six goals and three assists in 38 games as a forward.
