By Mark Wells Aug 27, 2024 | 11:53 AM

Grayville City Council met Monday night with a very short agenda.  The treasurer’s report indicated assets exceeding $3.2 million, with all but $137,494 tied up in restricted funds and investments.

Former finance commissioner and council member David Jordan sought clarification on recent business district plans and asked for an update on the Wendy’s expected to open in September. Mayor Travis Thompson stated that plans for Wendy’s were progressing but provided no further details. Regarding the business district, Jordan mentioned hearing that the city might raise the sales tax to 8.75%. Thompson initially denied this but later added more information.

A public hearing on the proposed Business District is scheduled for September 9th at 6:30 PM at City Hall.

In new business, the council amended the loan agreement with CC’s Boutique. The owner requested an additional $1,995, raising her total loan to $3,826.14, which will be repaid over nearly four years. The boutique plans to introduce permanent jewelry as a new product line, and the amendment was unanimously approved.

The council granted a special G Class event liquor license to Bunting Enterprises for a wine tasting event with Homestead Wineries from West Salem, set for August 31st. Bunting Enterprises operates The Smokin’ Pig restaurant at the Grayville campground.
