Due to extreme heat conditions the West Salem at Cisne baseball & softball games have been cancelled Tuesday, August 27.
There will be no practices. The home baseball and softball games have been postponed until Friday, September 6 and will start at 2:00 due to scheduling conflicts.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:

The St. Louis Cardinals dipped back below .500 with a 7-4 loss to the San Diego Padres at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals trailed for most of the contest after surrendering two runs in the top of the first inning. Kyle Gibson was charged with his sixth loss after allowing seven runs on five hits in four-and-a-third innings, while Alec Burleson had three hits and two RBI in the losing effort. The Cardinals are still just six games out of the final NL Wild Card spot with a 65-and-66 record. Andre Pallante starts for St. Louis tonight. First pitch is at 6:45PM.

The Cubs made a mockery of the Pirates following an 18-8 victory in the series opener from PNC Park. Dansby Swanson blasted a grand slam and Miguel Amaya finished with four RBI as the Cubbies combined for 21 hits. Jameson Taillon got the win after giving up four runs over six-plus innings. Chicago has won four-of-five and sits in second place in the NL Central at 66-and-66. The Cubs send Justin Steele to the mound against the Pirates tonight.

The Chicago White Sox surrendered five runs in the top of the seventh during a 6-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Southsiders led by a run entering the inning before Detroit’s offensive eruption. Jared Shuster was charged with his third loss in relief after allowing four runs in one-and-a-third innings. Andrew Benintendi hit a solo home run in the losing effort. The Southsiders remain in last place in the AL Central at 31-and-101. Garrett Crochet starts for the Sox against Texas tonight.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

Big Ten Reveals Football Tiebreakers

The Big Ten has revealed its new tiebreakers for the 18-team conference. After adding former Pac-12 teams USC, UCLA, Washington and Oregon to the conference, the top two teams in the overall standings will face each other in the conference championship game. The first few steps that will be taken if the top two teams are tied in the Big Ten standings include: the tied teams will be compared based on head-to-head matchups, record against all common conference opponents, and record against common opponents with the best conference record and proceeding through the common conference opponents based on their order of finish. The Big Ten championship game will be held on December 7th at Lucas Oil Stadium.
