FAIRFIELD LADY MULES VOLLEYBALL KICKOFF CLASSIC RESULTS FROM SATURDAY
Fairfield High School played host to the 16 team Volleyball Kickoff Classic Saturday as the Carmi-White County Lady Bulldogs won 1st in the tournament with wins over Woodlawn, Oblong, Carbondale, NCOE and North Posey, IN to take the Championship. NCOE Lady Cardinals ended up going 4-1 for a third place finish beating Fairfield while the Lady Mules placing fourth with victories against, North Clay, Teutopolis, Lawrenceville and losing to North Posey, IN and NCOE. The JV Lady Mules played a game in the tournament beating the Christopher VARSITY team in two sets. The Cisne Runnin’ Lady Lions participated in the Kickoff Classic losing to North Posey IN, Newton, Christopher, North Clay and beating Woodlawn.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:
A big seventh inning pushed the Cardinals past the Yankees in their 14-7 victory at Yankee Stadium. JoJo Romero was credited with the win after striking out three without allowing a run over an inning and a third of relief. Jordan Walker led the way at the dish after going five-for-five with a two-run homer and three RBI. St. Louis is now in third place in the NL Central at 69-and-68. Andre Pallante starts for the Cards against the Brewers this afternoon. The St. Louis Cardinals are getting two players back as the MLB regular season nears its end. They activated starting pitcher Steven Matz from the 60-day injured list. The lefty was 1-and-2 with a 6.18 ERA in six starts when he went on the injured list with a back issue in late April. The team also reinstated outfielder Michael Siani off the 10-day IL. He had been dealing with an oblique injury. He is batting .256 with two home runs and 18 RBI in 101 games this season.
The Chicago Cubs smoked the Washington Nationals 14-1 at Nationals Park to complete a sweep. Isaac Paredes [ e-sock puh-ray-dess ] was two-for-four with three RBI. Nico Hoerner and Cody Bellinger each drove in two runs. Starting pitcher Jordan Wicks got the win with five innings of one-run ball. The Cubs have won six straight and are 71-and-66. They sit three-and-a-half games back of the Atlanta Braves for the final playoff spot in the National League. Jameson Taillon starts for the Northsiders against Pittsburgh tonight.
The Chicago White Sox are on a ten-game losing streak following a 2-0 loss to the New York Mets at Guaranteed Rate Field. Garrett Crochet was charged with his tenth loss after striking out eight and allowing a run on three hits in three-and-a-third innings. The White Sox are in last place in the AL Central with 31 wins and a franchise-record 107 losses. The Southsiders send Chris Flexen to the mound against the Orioles this afternoon.
