The Old Farmer’s Almanac has unveiled its 2024-2025 Winter Weather Forecast, presenting a mixed outlook for Illinois. While the national forecast suggests a “calmer, gentler” winter, the specifics for the Prairie State vary by region.
For the Ohio Valley region, which encompasses the southern third of Illinois, the almanac predicts a colder-than-normal winter. The coldest days are anticipated from late January through early February and again in late February.
In addition to the chill, above-average snowfall is expected for much of southern Illinois. The snowiest periods are forecasted for late December, late January into early February, late February, and mid-March.
