Jerry Keith Thorman, age 72, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Thursday evening, August 29, 2024, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
He was born May 3, 1952, in Breese, the son of Dorothy Thorman, and was a resident of Prairie Estates CILA home in Flora.
Jerry was very proud of his accomplishments in Special Olympics weightlifting. He also played on the Special Olympics basketball team. A big highlight for him was when he and his teammates traveled to Chicago to see the Chicago Bulls basketball team play. Jerry was even more excited when they had the opportunity for their team to play at halftime of the game. He was a fan of Elvis Presley and often talked about his trip to Memphis where he enjoyed a tour of Graceland. He often liked to serenade the ladies with one of Elvis’ songs. Jerry was an avid WWF wrestling fan. He would wear his Hulk Hogan bandana when watching his favorite wrestlers including Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, and Randy “Macho Man” Savage. Jerry always had a positive outlook on life, rarely angry or complaining about anything. He was a great guy, a fantastic friend, and will truly be missed.
