Consolidated Grain & Barge in Olney and the Edwards County Farm Bureau Young Leaders conducted the 17th annual Edwards County corn yield survey on Wednesday.
The results are an estimated 2024 county corn average of 169.33 bushels per acre. Albion was the highest with 186.74 bushels per acre. Ellery was the lowest with 153.70 bushels per acre.
“Those collecting samples did notice issues with tar spot, rust, and wildlife damage,” stated Rebecca Perry, FBCM of the Edwards County Farm Bureau. “Overall, there was heavy weed pressure due to heavy rains that have washed out the residual.”
After the survey, collectors are estimating peak harvest to be around the first part of October. The county average is very similar to last year.
The survey was conducted by randomly picking six fields in each township and eight from Shelby (due to size), and then taking three samples from each field. Fifty fields were checked, in all. All counts were based on 85,000 kernels per bushel.

Bone Gap: 164.20 bushel per acre
Browns: 171.70 bushel per acre
Dixon: 179.58 bushel per acre
Ellery: 153.70 bushel per acre
French Creek: 171.48 bushel per acre
Salem: 159.66 bushel per acre
Shelby: 167.56 bushel per acre
