The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of those involved in a tragic crash on Monday afternoon between a van and a horse-drawn buggy.
At approximately 4:49 p.m., deputies responded to reports of the collision at the intersection of Log Cabin Lane and Goshen Road in Jefferson County. They were assisted by the Jefferson County Fire Protection District and Litton Ambulance. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a white Dodge van, driven by 32-year-old Katlyn M. Catron of Ina, collided with the horse-drawn buggy, which was operated by 20-year-old Dena M. Mast of Belle Rive. The impact caused significant damage and resulted in serious injuries to Dena and her two passengers, 18-year-old Elma Mast and 21-year-old Mary M. Mast, both from Belle Rive.
Elma was transported to SSM Good Samaritan Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Dena and Mary were airlifted to a hospital in St. Louis, MO for further treatment. Katlyn Catron and her juvenile passenger sustained minor injuries in the incident. The family of the Masts arrived at the scene to assist with the recovery of the horse, which also suffered injuries.
Detectives from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
