MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:
The St. Louis Cardinals opened up their series against the Cincinnati Reds with a 3-0 loss at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base. Andre Pallante was charged with his eighth loss after allowing three runs on six hits in five innings. St. Louis is six-and-a-half games out of the final NL Wild Card spot at 72-and-72. Lance Lynn starts for the Cardinals against Cincinnati tonight.
Cardinals Demote OF Scott
The St. Louis Cardinals are mixing up their roster. The Cards sent outfielder Victor Scott-the-second down to Triple-A Memphis yesterday. The 23-year-old was hitting just .164 with two home runs and nine RBI during his rookie season. St. Louis selected the contract of infielder Thomas Saggese to replace Scott on the active roster.
The Chicago Cubs rallied for five runs in the top of the eighth during a 6-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. The Northsiders trailed by two entering the inning before Seiya Suzuki hit a two-run, game-tying single. Suzuki scored the go-ahead run on an error. Shota Imanaga earned his 13th win after giving up three runs on seven hits in seven innings, while Porter Hodge picked up his fifth save. Chicago is just four games behind the Mets and the Braves for the final NL Wild Card spot at 75-and-70. Jordan Wicks starts for the Cubs against the Dodgers tonight.
The Chicago White Sox had just five hits during a 5-0 loss to the Cleveland Guardians at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Southsiders trailed by just one before giving up three runs in the top of the sixth. Jonathan Cannon was charged with his tenth loss after giving up three runs on seven hits in five-and-a-third innings. The Sox remain in last place in the AL Central with a 33-and-113 record. Davis Martin starts for Chicago against Cleveland this afternoon.
