APARTMENT COMPLEX IN MCLEANSBORO DAMAGED BY FIRE LAST THURSDAY
The McLeansboro Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment complex last Thursday morning just before 8:30 on W. Meadow Acres Dr. after receiving reports of a kitchen fire. Initial information indicated that elderly residents were still inside, prompting the commanding officer to upgrade the response to a “Full Still” alarm, which brought in mutual aid. Fortunately, by the time crews arrived, all residents had safely evacuated the building.
Upon arrival, firefighters faced heavy smoke and flames, leading to an upgrade to a MABAS box alarm for additional support. Mutual aid from area fire departments responded with equipment and crews including Wayne City Fire Department. Crews swiftly tackled the fire, managing to contain the damage to just one apartment, although smoke affected other areas of the building. A thorough search confirmed that all occupants were out and accounted for.
The American Red Cross also provided support in relocating residents during the rehabilitation of the building.
