Carmi Police recently investigated a report of an older male attempting to engage juvenile females at Dairy Queen, where he allegedly asked for their names and encouraged them to get into his vehicle. After conducting follow-up interviews and reviewing video footage from local businesses and residents, the police determined that the incident was a misunderstanding.
The male was identified and interviewed by the police. He explained that he had been instructed by a female to pick up her young child at Dairy Queen and take her to Little Giant Grocery Store, where the mother was shopping. Upon arriving, he saw two young girls in the parking lot and mistakenly believed one of them was the child he was supposed to pick up.
He called out the name of the girl he was meant to pick up, prompting the girls to run away after they did not respond. Realizing they were not the correct children, he left the parking lot, parked, and went inside to retrieve the actual child. After picking her up, he then drove to Little Giant Grocery Store to pick up the mother, who had finished her shopping. The police confirmed this account with the child’s mother and through surveillance footage.
