Illinois State Police Troop 9 Captain Nathan Douglas, says Troopers will be conducting Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols throughout October in Clay, Effingham, Hamilton, Richland, Marion, and Jasper counties. These patrols aim to prevent, detect, and enforce laws against impaired driving and the illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol and drugs.
The ISP maintains a zero-tolerance policy for impaired driving. Officers will be vigilant for signs of impaired driving, unsafe vehicle operation, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and the transportation of open alcoholic beverages. They will also monitor for improper seatbelt and child restraint use, distracted driving, and other violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code.
Statistics indicate that alcohol and drug impairment is involved in over 47% of fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, with an alcohol-related traffic fatality occurring every 39 minutes in the U.S. The ACE program enhances the efforts of officers to remove dangerous DUI offenders from the roads and is funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
