83 year old Burnt Prairie resident, Dan W. Masterson passed away at Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
Dan was born on April 8, 1941 to Richard and Hazel (Utterback) Masterson. Dan was one of 11 children born to this union. Dan married Barbara Savage on August 24, 1966 in Centerville, Illinois. They celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Dan served in the US Army and had been a life long farmer and raised livestock. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church.
Dan Masterson was a man of personality and fortitude. He was a “fighter” in working for all things important to him. He held a strong Christian belief and taught Sunday School for many years at his Burnt Prairie Church. His faith welded deeply into his life and he read his bible daily. Many times he recited scripture when making a point in a discussion. He was a good man, but not a perfect man, as none of us are. He was opinionated and wasn’t afraid to call you out on something. The adjective “stubborn” comes to mind when thinking of Dan. In most cases, this is a good trait and Dan used it well. However tough he appeared, he was a real softy when it cams to the love he held for his family. He reveled in his family and held a loving pride toward them, though at times, stingy in admitting it. Yet, his slow spreading smile revealed his true feelings. Dan was a character, no doubt about it, but he was a bedrock to his family until the day he had a major, medical condition. He rallied and improved for some years, but the condition worsened and he became restricted in his physicality. Though he became restricted in his movements, he still held a strong influence in the Masterson family. During his last days he fought to overcome the illness that deprived him of the breath of life and robbed his body of vitality. He knew what this transition of life meant, held on for family, but envisioned the rewards a Christian receives on the final journey. Dan will always be a presence in his family’s lives and will know the essence and victory of eternity.
Dan is survived by his wife; Barbara, 1 son; Wade (Kandy) Masterson. 2 grandchildren; Kenley (Joe) Blair and Braeden Masterson. 1 great grandchild; Josey Blair and his special care giver; Chandra Reever. 1 brother; John (Paula) Masterson. 1 sister; Faye Pollard. 4 sisters-in-law; Mildred Masterson, Deanna Short, Janet Stewart and Judy Savage.
He was preceded in death by his daughter; Michelle, his parents and 8 brothers and sisters.
