Cardinals Hire Brown As Hitting Coach
The St. Louis Cardinals have their new hitting coach. The team hired Brant Brown to run its hitting program yesterday. Brown spent last season as a bench coach with the Mariners, and he was the hitting coach of the Marlins in 2023. Brown will replace Turner Ward, who was fired at the end of the 2024 season.
Dodgers Great Who Sparked Baseball In the 1980’s Has Died
He was a favorite among fans and electrified baseball. Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitching great Fernando Valenzuela has died. In 1981 ‘Fernandomania’ arrived. He is the only player in Major League Baseball history to win both the Rookie of the Year and Cy Young awards in the same season. To top it off, the Dodgers won the World Series that year. Born in an impoverished small town in Mexico, Valenzuela, who would become a six-time All-Star, was like a cult hero. He was embraced by the Los Angeles Latino fan base and others across the country. Valenzuela called games in Spanish for the Dodgers. The organization said earlier this month he was stepping away from the broadcast booth for the rest of the season to focus on his health.
