Mt. Vernon Police arrested a man on multiple charges after receiving a report of a handgun being involved in a domestic dispute in the 200 block of South 19th Street around 12:40 PM on Tuesday.
Roderick Burnett Jr. was taken to the Jefferson County Jail, facing charges that include Armed Violence, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Aggravated Assault, Disorderly Conduct, and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
Authorities notified local schools about the incident, which prompted them to implement safety measures due to the situation’s proximity.
As part of the investigation, police obtained a search warrant for Burnett’s residence. During the search, officers and detectives discovered a firearm, ammunition, and the remains of deceased dogs in an advanced state of decay.
