Rivers and Drought Info

Here’s the latest on area river stages as of this morning:  the Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 16.51 feet, just below the 17-foot flood stage.  At Clay City the stage is 7.76 feet.  Flood stage is 18 feet.  At Carmi the river is at 13.3 feet.  Flood stage is 27 feet.  The Skillet Fork at Wayne City reads 6.61 feet.  Flood stage is 15 feet.  The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 3.19 feet.  Flood stage is 19 feet.  Bonpas Creek at Browns is at 2.16 feet.

The latest weather forecast is indicating rain chances through the weekend, with possibly some thunderstorms mixed in.  Drier weather is expected early next week.

The extended forecasts continue to show above normal temperatures and precipitation expected for our area.  All of Illinois remains  on the dry side, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor Map.  Wayne County is shown as Abnormally Dry as of last Thursday, along with areas to the west and northwest.  Most of central Illinois is in a Moderate Drought  and areas of northern and northeastern Illinois are in Severe Drought conditions.
