85 year old Albion resident, James “Jim” McKinzie, passed from this life to the next on November 9, 2024 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield, Illinois.
Jim was born at home on September 23, 1939 in the West Village area of Edwards County, Illinois to Lyman and Genevieve (Fildes) McKinzie. He married Nyla KeKuewa on January 1, 1966.
Jim was a member of the West Village Christian Church. He served proudly in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. Jim and Nyla farmed together for 58 years. Jim was the owner/operator of J & N Oil Company. He was part of the local Coon Club and also enjoyed excavating. Jim loved God, his country, and his family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Nyla, and his children; Shad Kealoha (Merilee) McKinzie of Albion, Nixie Kuulei (Steve) Hnetkovsky of Albion, and Lenora Mailelani (Chris) Meyer of Atoka, Tennessee. His grandchildren; Lindsey McKinzie, Seth (Libby) McKinzie, Katie (Rylee) Tindall, Raechel Hnetkovsky, Caleb Meyer and Cody Meyer. His sister, Shirley Ann (George) Tribe and brother-in-law Dave Rigg also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Patricia Brake Rigg and brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Brake.
Funeral services for Jim McKinzie will be held at 10 am on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Nale’s Funeral Home in Albion. Burial will follow in the West Village Christian Church Cemetery in rural Albion where military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8222 and American Legion Post 590. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday evening, November 14, at Nale’s Funeral Home in Albion.
Memorials may be given to the VFW Avenue of Flags and will be accepted at the funeral home.
