The rising cost of groceries is set to impact Thanksgiving celebrations this year. A recent survey from Lending Tree reveals that the expense of hosting Thanksgiving dinner has increased by 19% compared to last year, with the average cost now around $431.

Matt Schulz, an analyst at Lending Tree, notes that over half of the more than 2,000 Americans surveyed—56%—still plan to host Thanksgiving dinner in some form. However, about 10% have decided to abandon their hosting plans altogether. Schulz explains, “Inflation is definitely leading people to change their Thanksgiving plans,” with many opting to modify their menus, use coupons more frequently, or forgo hosting due to costs.

For those who are still planning to host, one way to cut expenses is by adopting a potluck approach, asking guests to contribute either money or a dish to help offset costs. The survey indicates that 60% of hosts anticipate their guests will bring something to share, making it a more budget-friendly option for the holiday.
