In West Salem, the community has come together to support the Sam and Kristen Greathouse family after they lost their home in a devastating fire on November 1st. The fire erupted just as they were preparing for dinner, destroying their home, car, and all their possessions.
In response to the tragedy, neighbors and friends quickly mobilized, raising over $26,000 through various fundraising efforts. Within 24 hours, the family was provided with a fully furnished temporary home, thanks to the generosity of a neighbor, whose family member recently passed away. A dedicated team of 30 volunteers helped move the family in, supplying everything from furniture to kitchenware.
The volunteers printed and hung family photos on the walls, bringing a sense of comfort and familiarity during a challenging time.
Local residents emphasized the importance of community support, with one friend stating, “When you need them, we all come together to help.” The Greathouse family hopes to pay this kindness forward in the future.
More fundraising events are planned, including donation drives during basketball games at Edwards County High School, ensuring that the community continues to stand by the Greathouse family as they navigate this difficult chapter.
