CITY OF GRAYVILLE HAS NEW 5 YEAR AGREEMENT WITH SUNRISE SANITATION

The Grayville City Council recently held a meeting with a light agenda that included extending a new agreement with Sunrise Sanitation for garbage removal services. After three years without an increase, residents can anticipate a modest rise in garbage removal fees, likely starting in April 2025 when the new agreement takes effect. While the exact costs for residents are not yet determined, the current rate is around $16.75, based on the contract rate of $14.22 that the city pays.

Mayor Travis Thompson clarified that the charges residents see are marked up to cover additional costs, including salaries. The new contract will increase the city’s cost for trash service to $18 per month per resident for Year 1, with incremental increases each subsequent year, reaching $21.06 by Year 5 (2029). Residents will be informed of the specific rates during the next council meeting.  Treasurer Sharon Walden also stated mosquito spraying is also covered in the budget as part of public health…so part of Grayville’s trash pickup also includes mosquito fogging.

Additionally, the council passed Ordinance 965 to amend the Traffic Code in a specific area, addressing parking issues that have arisen on the east side of the road from Bishop Street to Walnut Street.

Irvine’s Meat and Deli received $500 in TIF 1 assistance for signage, while a request from Chappy’s for a Revolving Loan/Grant was tabled for further clarification. The Assistant Police Chief reported 174 calls for service in November, with five arrests and 24 citations issued.
