Governor JB Pritzker, alongside the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, announced on Monday the allocation of over $55.2 million in grant funding for 100 local park initiatives across Illinois. This funding aims to support communities in acquiring land and enhancing recreational facilities.
For the third consecutive year, the governor has earmarked funds specifically for economically distressed areas, resulting in 29 underserved communities receiving a total of $17.3 million through the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program.
In our region, New Haven in Gallatin County will be awarded $482,400, Bluford in Jefferson County will receive $600,000, Centralia in Marion County will obtain $43,000, and Golconda in Pope County will also be granted $600,000. Notably, New Haven, Bluford, and Golconda are recognized as economically distressed communities.
