Starting January 1st, the minimum wage in Illinois will increase to $15 per hour, up from $14. Tipped workers will see their pay rise to $9 per hour, while youth workers working fewer than 650 hours per year will earn $13 per hour. This increase is part of a schedule established by legislation signed in 2019, which aims for a $15 minimum wage by 2025.
Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton emphasized the importance of this increase for working families, stating that it recognizes their contributions. Workers are advised to check their paystubs in the new year to ensure proper compensation. Complaints regarding wage issues can be filed with the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) or through their hotline at 800-478-3998.
