TRAIN DERAILMENT FRIDAY MORNING IN WILLIAMSON COUNTY

Canadian National crews responded to a derailment involving 19 coal-carrying cars southwest of Thompsonville on Friday morning. CN spokesperson Jeffrey Price reported that there were no injuries, fires, or hazardous materials involved. Cleanup efforts for the derailed cars and coal will take place over the coming days and weeks. The Williamson County Highway Department advises motorists to avoid Crawford Road between Locust Grove Road and Kaskaskia Road due to the incident and to take alternate routes. The cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
