Wayne-White Electric Cooperative President and Chief Executive Officer, Chris Hopfinger has confirmed that there will be no rate increase for consumers in 2025. He attributed this decision to the stabilization of materials and power costs.
The past year has posed some challenges for the cooperative. Officials indicated that the co-op was unable to secure federal grants intended for the installation of battery storage systems at several substations however, it was a successful year as the co-op continued the line maintenance program by changing poles and upgrading wires to keep the distribution system in good shape. They have also continued their vegetation management program to reduce tree related outages.
Additionally, co-op members have encountered multiple transmission outages, some of which were preventable, resulting from vehicles colliding with power poles or animals entering substations. To address these issues, the cooperative is collaborating with Hoosier Energy to minimize the impact of outages through automated switching. Officials also emphasized their commitment to pursuing additional grants to help manage power costs and enhance reliability.
