Last Thursday, the Fairfield Fire Department was called to a fire at the home of Don Davis located at 1020 Laurel St. Fire officials reported that old wiring had shorted out above the kitchen ceiling, causing smoke to emerge from the attic. The issue was first discovered by an employee from Hayes Plumbing and Heating, who was at the home to address a malfunctioning furnace. Upon noticing the smoke, the fire department was called to the scene. Firefighters quickly responded and pulled down the kitchen ceiling, revealing a 2×6 ceiling joist ignited beneath some insulation. They removed the old insulation and successfully extinguished the relatively small fire without further incident.
Fire officials credited Hayes Plumbing and Heating for their quick response, which helped prevent a potentially larger fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and damage to Davis’s home was minimal.
