The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a COLD WEATHER ADVISORY until 12 Noon today (Monday) for all of Southern Illinois. Very cold wind chills as low as 10 degrees below zero. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Take precautionary measures and use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves and make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside and keep pets indoors as much as possible and make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.
Very cold temperatures will continue into Tuesday. Wind chills of -7 to 0 are also expected for Tuesday morning.
