By Mark Wells Jan 25, 2025 | 6:31 AM

The Fairfield Grade School board met on Tuesday night to review the 2024 audit, revealing that the district is in robust financial health. The audit indicated no findings, and the district has successfully increased its cash reserves to cover 319 days. Additionally, the district’s financial profile score remained stable at 3.70, qualifying it for recognition status.

Superintendent Kristina Gardner reported that the district has received 55% of its anticipated revenue while expending 51% of its budget. The current balance for the food service program stands at $259,234.

During the meeting, two calendar options were presented to the board. With all snow emergency days utilized this year, students will now return after Memorial Day. Consequently, the Teacher Institute Day scheduled for March 21st will be changed to a student attendance day, moving the last day of school for students to May 23rd. Staff will then have two Institute Days following Memorial Day on May 27th and May 28th. The board also set the 8th Grade graduation date for May 15th at 6 PM.

The board reviewed the Vision 2030 initiative, which emphasizes student safety, retention of high-quality teachers, enhancement of post-secondary success, and improved measurement of effective programs. It also aims to reform the Illinois assessment system and provide greater flexibility in accountability at the local level. The board voted in support of Vision 2030.

Additionally, an agreement with Kiddie Kollege was renewed for another three years. Superintendent Gardner noted recent improvements, including the remodeling of lounge bathrooms over winter break, painting in the hallways near the gyms, and ongoing work on the girls’ basement bathrooms at Center Street.

Following a closed session, the board took the following actions:

Hired Kelsey Brendal as a long-term substitute for February and March.

Hired Julie Hutson as a certified teacher.

Voted to keep closed session minutes private and to destroy audio tapes from closed sessions held between July 2022 and June 2023.
