The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) has announced two new partnerships aimed at enhancing training opportunities for cadets throughout the state. The first partnership, formed with John A. Logan Community College, will support cadets in the Southern Region, preparing them for careers at multiple correctional facilities including; Big Muddy River, Centralia, Pinckneyville, Menard, Shawnee, and Vienna Correctional Centers. The second agreement, established with Elementary School District 54 in Morris, focuses on cadets in the Northern Region.
These collaborations reflect IDOC’s commitment to addressing staffing needs and fostering stronger connections with local communities, as highlighted by Acting Director Latoya Hughes. The new initiatives include the creation of temporary regional training facilities to complement the primary Training Academy in Decatur, with the potential to increase training class capacity by up to 300%.
IDOC has emphasized that recruitment remains a top priority, and these partnerships are essential for developing a skilled workforce. Prospective correctional officers can access detailed information about the application and hiring process on IDOC’s website, which includes requirements such as being at least 18 years old, possessing a valid driver’s license, and having a High School Diploma or GED. A list of current screening events is available online and is updated at least monthly on IDOC’s website and social media channels.
In addition to correctional officers, IDOC is also seeking other positions, including nurses and social workers, and offers competitive benefits across more than 30 locations in Illinois. Interested individuals can reach out with questions via email at idocjobs@illinois.gov.
