Frontier Community College Volleyball Coach Chet Snyder recently addressed the Fairfield Rotary Club during their noon luncheon, sharing his vision for the Bobcats Volleyball program. With an impressive record of 73 percent, Snyder is the winningest head coach across all sports in Fairfield Community High School history. He aims to build a successful program at Frontier Community College, looking to improve on last year’s challenging record of 2-31.

During his 22 years of coaching, Snyder led the Mules’ volleyball team to six regional titles and back-to-back sectional championships in 2018 and 2019. He noted that out of 100 recruiting attempts, he typically sees a return of only three percent. Currently, he is in discussions with recruits from various countries, including Japan, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Turkey, and New Zealand.

A significant draw for potential players is the newly established Frontier College Volleyball Residential Housing, which spans 5,500 square feet and offers individual bedrooms for each player, along with six bathrooms, two full kitchens, a game room, a slide, and a movie theater. a planned 22,000 square-foot sports gym is to be built between Bob Boyles and Mason Hall on the Frontier Campus. This facility will centralize sports and training, becoming the core athletics center for the college.

The gym will feature administrative offices, modern sports training rooms, locker rooms, and athletic treatment areas, with an estimated cost of $4.1 million. Illinois Eastern Community Colleges has pledged $3.4 million towards the project, which is nearing funding completion, needing roughly $50,000 to break ground and aiming for completion by 2026. While funding has reportedly been secured, the timeline for construction remains uncertain. Community residents are encouraged to reach out to Frontier administration and college board members to express support for advancing the project.

Coach Snyder also highlighted the upcoming construction of a new 4-story Comfort Inn & Suites off Williamson Drive and potential restaurants in the area as additional attractions that will benefit the college.
